Do It Yourself (DIY).

That was me — believing I should be the one to figure it out on my own. “I don’t need a coach or mentor for personal growth.” I said that for years.

And for years, the patterns I wanted to change more or less stayed the same.

Then I joined a men’s group focused on personal development and everything shifted.

I realized I needed accountability. I needed fellow men who would call me out when my words and actions didn’t align. I needed people who would challenge me, support me, and teach me tools to create the life I said I wanted.

Those open eyes led me to my coach, a personal development pioneer I now meet with monthly. And as for that men’s group? I still sit with them every week for three hours. It’s a cornerstone of my growth and my life.

Through both my own experience and years in my coaching practice, I’ve discovered there are many reasons people hesitate to take that final step and hire a coach. Here’s what I’ve found — and how to move past them.

Why People Hesitate to Hire a Personal Development Coach (and How to Move Past It)

  1. Cost Concerns – Coaching can seem expensive, but think of it as an investment in clarity, momentum, and results. The ROI often far exceeds the cost.

  2. Skepticism – Doubting results is normal. Ask for testimonials, case studies, or try a single session to experience it firsthand.

  3. Fear of Vulnerability – Opening up can feel risky. A skilled coach creates a safe, non-judgmental space for honest exploration.

  4. Unclear Goals – Not sure what you want? That’s exactly what a coach helps with — turning uncertainty into vision and action.

  5. Time Constraints – Life is busy, but even short, consistent sessions build focus and momentum.

  6. Self-Reliance – “I should figure it out myself.” Coaching doesn’t replace effort — it accelerates it.

  7. Fear of Change – Growth can be uncomfortable. A coach helps you navigate change one empowered step at a time.

  8. Procrastination or “Not Ready Yet” – Waiting for the perfect moment usually means waiting forever. The perfect time is now.

Your First Step

You don’t need to have all the answers or feel perfectly ready.

You might be thinking, “Geez, that’s a lot of time I don’t have.” That’s exactly where I come in.

I meet with clients three times a month for one hour each. Because it’s 1:1 time, we get a lot done in those three hours. I simplify the process and shorten the time commitment so you can focus on what matters most.

Let me be the one who spends the time studying, practicing, and walking the talk, so I can bring you the distilled wisdom, clarity, and tools that work.

A single conversation with a coach can create powerful clarity, focus, and direction. If you’re feeling off, stuck, or simply curious about what’s possible—reach out

Sometimes the most transformative shift begins with a simple yes and the courage to start the conversation.
