How Intentions Can Change Your Life in 2025

Here we are, January 2025, with a short list of goals for the year ahead, and already some of us are wondering: How do I even begin? The answer is simple—start by setting an intention. Something as straightforward as saying, “I want to take one step toward my goal today,” can open up possibilities for actions and opportunities that support your goal throughout the day.

Try this: set an intention for five days in a row and notice the results.

Among all the tricks, tools, and coaching strategies out there, intention setting stands apart as the one that consistently delivers results. Want to find love? Hoping to take your career to the next level? Ready to reignite the spark in an important relationship? Longing to deepen your connection with your children? Seeking to feel more fulfilled at the end of each day? Or maybe you want to reclaim a long-lost hobby. Then, set an intention.

When you set an intention, you create a powerful glide path toward achieving your goal. It fosters a sense of flow, aligns your focus, and opens you to possibilities that move you closer to the outcome you desire. From my experience, it’s one of the most effective ways to achieve meaningful results.

Why Don’t More People Do It?

The simple answer is that most of us aren’t conditioned to set intentions. It’s not something we’re taught. At first, intention setting feels foreign, even unnatural, at first. As a coach, I guide people through new approaches like this one, helping them rewire old thinking patterns and establish habits that drive change.

This morning, for example, I set the intention to complete all my administrative tasks before my flight tomorrow. I told myself, “By the end of the day, I want to feel accomplished and complete.” Writing this blog was one of those tasks, and as I type these words, I feel that satisfying sense of accomplishment taking root.

Setting an intention can transform your day, no matter how big or small the intention might be.

The Stretch

Here’s your challenge: Set a simple intention at the start of your day for five consecutive days. At the end of each day, take a moment to reflect. How do you feel? Did the intention influence your day? Were there moments when it helped guide your actions or decisions?

A “stretch” is about taking a coaching tool or insight, putting it into practice, and observing the results. This exercise can help you create meaningful momentum in your life. It's the first step towards 'self-coaching'.
